G Mining Ventures reported that a fatality has occurred at its Oko West gold project in Guyana. The death was related to a road incident involving a contractor, which occurred on October 13.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic accident,” said President and CEO Louis-Pierre Gignac. “Our sincere condolences and support are with our colleague’s family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time.”
G Mining’s country leadership is on-site to cooperate with and assist the authorities fully in their investigations The contractor was employed by Hopkinson Mining Security Services, a partner of G Mining.
As the incident occurred in an isolated area of the site, G Mining said it did not impact the broader operations, and the site remains open.
Oko West is located 95 kilometers west of Georgetown.
